G2 Gatorade is a popular sports drink, and is very appealing for anyone on a diet who are watching their weight since each 12 oz bottle has 40 calories and 10 grams of from sugars. As always, water is the best option, so if you want to be as healthy as possible stick with water. If you really need some flavor then you may want to use G2 Gatorade. Let’s take a look at the sweeteners.
- high fructose corn syrup
- sucrose syrup
- sucralose (aka Splenda)
- Acesulfame potassium
There is a lot of controversy around artificial sweetners, and the jury is still out in my mind. There have been a number of studies that have shown no ill effects from sucralose, and a few studies that have shown some, arguably minor, ill effects in laboratory mice. I recommend the wikipedia page if you want more details. As I mentioned earlier, you can always stick with plain water.
So is G2 Gatorade good for you? It isn’t a simple answer. Being dehydrated is most certainly bad for you, so if it takes a little sweetener to keep you hydrated then drink up. If you’re concerned about artificial sweeteners then stick with plain water. Staying hydrated is what’s good for you!
